Daniel C. Bryant, MD

Doctor Daniel Bryant, a member of Maine AllCare’s Policy Committee, reviews the Maine Legislature’s failure to make any progress on healthcare reform during the recent session.

In his Op-ed in the Portland Press Herald, he suggests four possible reasons for the Health Coverage, Insurance and Financial Services committee’s vote “Ought-Not-To-Pass” on 2 bills: complexity, cost, competition and contingency.

Dr. Bryant concludes with the following: “Whatever the reasons for the negative vote on LD 1883 were, and before it’s too late, it will behoove us all, especially our legislators, to study comprehensive and coordinated ways to address the problems in our current health care system, including proposals like LD 1883.”
