David Jolly writes: “An opinion piece in the June 1 Press Herald celebrates increased lung cancer survival rates due to better treatment options and the relatively recent introduction of lung cancer screening. It concludes by encouraging people to talk with their physician about lung cancer prevention and screening. Although this may be sound advice, it begs the question: What about those without a physician – the 25 million Americans who still don’t have health insurance and the tens of millions more who have insurance but still can’t afford health care because their plans come with steep deductibles and copays?”His answer: a publicly funded universal healthcare system “that assures everyone can benefit.”
