Julie Pease MD
Board President, 2010-2016
Term: December 2016 – December 2019 (3)
Dr. Julie Pease hails from Minnesota. She received her undergraduate degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and her medical degree from the University of Minnesota Medical School. Dr. Pease moved to Maine in 1987, after the completion of her training in psychiatry at the University of Vermont Medical Center Hospital. She is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. A co-founder of Maine AllCare, Dr. Pease served as its President from 2011-2016.
Throughout her career Dr. Pease has delivered psychiatric care to patients in a variety of settings, including hospitals, nursing homes, private practice, and most recently as a member of a multidisciplinary team at an outpatient mental health clinic in Brunswick. Dr. Pease is currently on her third working sabbatical as a consultant psychiatrist in New Zealand, a country that enjoys high quality, affordable universal healthcare.
“I bring to the Maine AllCare board my experience practicing medicine under a universal healthcare system in New Zealand. This experience contrasts sharply with my current experience practicing medicine in our broken health care ‘non-system.’ I am dedicated to the goal of publicly-funded universal healthcare for all Mainers by 2020.”
