Coming together for the Common Good
Orono – Maine AllCare, together with the Alliance for the Common Good, was one of 19 sponsoring organizations of a teach-in held at the U-Maine Student Union on April 7th. Margaret Flowers MD and Kevin Zeese, co-directors of It's Our Economy, a national advocacy group working to democratize our economy, were keynote speakers. Their message: People can come together, identify problems and come up with creative solutions.
As health care costs are at 18% of GDP and tens of millions of Americans remain without health insurance – 127,000 in Maine alone – despite the advances made by the Affordable Care Act, creative solutions at the state and local level will provide sensible alternatives, real solutions to our biggest issues. Maine AllCare is leading the way in educating the public about the economic benefits of moving to a universal health care system that covers everyone. And it's the right thing to do.
