Many chapter members who are willing to work / volunteer cannot attend meetings (or don’t like meetings- we understand!).  Consult “GET ACTIVE” at the top of meeting minutes, from now on. Details in minutes.

  • Hired Exec Dir, Phil Bailey and Field organizers Chris C and Abbie R.

Forming working groups. (Bill agreed to be on Development Com.)

  • Plans for next 6-12 m: 1. Continue building base and get supporters active. 2. Get in depth Economic study- join MCEP with an academic group-?U Mass, G Friedman. 3. Use Focus Grps to help develop a winning message. 4. Develop strong communication presence- Social M, short videos, for specific target groups. Ads. Partnerships w biz, etc.

CHAPTER work—pending- you can help!!

  • Farmer’s Markets: Tues Brunswick, Fri Brunswick and Sat Bath. Abbie and Chris will organize- stay tuned.
  • Several people have signed up for annual Brunswick PEACE FAIR, on Sat Aug 4.
  • Bill continues planning working w Jane Secease for a “Senior College Forum” session at UMA in the fall.
  • Marla and Poppy are working on rotary presentations– Please contact one of them if you are willing to try to arrange a brief presentation/ event. Most Rotaries have weekly meetings, so they need speakers!! Bath  Noon Rotary (Tues) declined, Bath Sunrise Rotary in process, Brunswick Rotary (Mon-Poppy has made contact), Rotary Club of Topsham (Mon 7am)

Chapter work accomplished—brief reports:

  • supporters —election day, June 12. We got ~750 signatures. Thanks all!!
  • AARP event, June 20- ~5o people, Panel, video, discussion, 2 hours! An excellent preview article appeared in the Coastal J.
  • Susan K @ Nurse MW, June 21. (Small grp, but they asked Susan to present again….)
  • June 25 House Party @ Arford- 18 attended- went well. Poppy says she learned “Just Do It (easy and fun.)
  • Marla met w Am Nurse Assoc- Maine, and Marla submitted an article for their journal.
  •  Progress on goals (accomplished/goal ) “Star” for goals met!

Fund Raising No action


  • NYT 7-17. At least 85 rural hospitals -about 5 percent of U.S. total- have closed since 2010. Those that remain must weigh cost of providing 24/7 delivery services against dwindling birthrates, doctor and nursing shortages, and falling revenues

AND— July 20 PPH. Bridgton Hosp (MAINE). prob will close M Services.

  • OHIO economic study favorable, so UHC bills introduced in house and senate (per Single P Action Network~June 1)
  • Minnesota HP booklet- comprehensive, well-written, covers all the bases for a state plan; excellent model for MAC- to work from, at least.
  • US Congress forms Medicare for All Caucus to educate, get more co-sponsors for HR 676. ~23 of 120 cosponsors in, already, including Chellie P.
