Delene Perley MA, Secretary
Portland, ME, Term: May 2016 – May 2019 (1)
Delene Perley is a retired Math and Computer Science professor with degrees from the University of Michigan and the College of Wooster in Ohio.
In retirement, she coordinates a food pantry in Portland, assists immigrants with English and learning to become citizens, and registers people at the polls to vote. She chaired a group from the Allen Avenue Unitarian Universalist church in Portland as they designed and presented a worship service about universal healthcare, Who Should Live and Who Should Die? The service has since been repeated for six other churches in the state. Delene and her late husband Jim have two grown children and two grandchildren.
“I believe that universal healthcare would benefit everyone, easing concerns regarding employment and financial worries in addition to their physical needs. Such a system would save money like it does in so many other first world countries in the world. Frankly, it is just the right thing to do. We are all in this together.”
